The resolution to the story is a split second 180 turn with very little reason for the dramatic change in character, it's just there because it had to and it's in no way believable. Flat yelling, dead eyes, most of it doesn't even take place with them in the same room. Everything is a backdrop for a father-son story where an asshole guides a scared little kid, and that story is extremely poorly acted out. There are so many unanswered questions and there's never any attempt to really answer any questions. Why is Earth freezing over every night, there's clearly still an atmosphere. Is the war still going, is that what humanity is hiding or are they even hiding that's just the impression the valley type city gave. The aliens that are for some reason hunting humans are never mentioned apart from the opening and then they're ONLY mentioned to supply the monsters. There's not a single scene where I could dispense my disbelief, nothing made sense and nothing was ever really explained or given any really weight. When one of the very first lines of dialogue is "perfectly evolved to hunt humans, completely blind and relying only on pheromones" I really have a hard time even giving the entire setting a chance. That's not even the nitpickings, those are just some of the most glaring issues that really kept me from ever get into the movie. Will needs some sort of comic relief once in a while, I mean c'mon, it's Will Smith! It's like having Adam Sandler or Seth Rogen to play a hardened veteran or a cold hitman.Įdit: Just on a side-note, his son could totally land a emotionless role, he wouldn't even need to act so hard. Still, I agree that both movies you mentioned were good, but the typecast between them is pretty much the same, however it differs from the typecast to this particular role (After Earth).
So basically, what happened in After Earth is we noticed Will does not work when trying to act completly emotionless as say, his partner in MIB, Tommy Lee Jones. In I, Robot he again plays a police tough guy, but this time with a dark past that makes him all serious and all, but still quite capable of expressing a various range of emotions throuout the whole movie. In I am Legend he watched his whole family die and he was in the middle of a zombie apocalypse so it's understandable, also the scenes with human/dummy dialogue/monologue or even with his dog would give out some emotions. True but he wasn't a military straight face in those, he was just a guy who was made thick by certain events. While using melee weapons.īottom line is: Will should not play this roletype again, Smith Jr should quit acting or at least put some effort and time into it, plot is retarded from start to end, CGI has pretty sweet details.Īlso, anyone notice the ship has a Millenium Falcon-type piloting? I mean, no handles or anything, they just press around and stuff. It's a shame about the clothing department though, shitty all around, I was particulary disappointed with the military "armor". So without the story and the acting, all you got in this is a good CGI.
But straight face tough guy? Nah, that's just not his thing. We saw that he's a good comedy action guy, with Bad Boyz, Independence Day, Wild Wild West, you name it. I will go ahead and say it that Will does not make a good serious military guy. I have to agree with you, the storyline made no sense whatsoever and the acting was just terrible.
About after earth movie movie#
Such an utterly stupid movie in every way with even worse acting where CGI is the only capably done aspect.
Intergalactic travel is done with so shitty instruments that a ring is a better plot turn-detector than the entirety of the ships systems. Leafy plants (or any plant for that matter) can comfortably exist in an environment that constantly flash freezes and thaws every damn day. Said ship can transmit through ion storms, more powerful beacon cannot.Įveryone speaks with a constantly changing accent, everyone has their own special kind of constantly changing accent. Tiny beacon that fits in your hand is a more powerful communications device than the command module of an intergalactic jump ship. Completely loses his shit the first time he's in the slightest of danger. Super kid one step from being part of the top elite soldiers in humanity - lies, disobeys and contradicts his superiors every step of the way. A flower stand is a totally secure haven from the ultimate predator, there's no a single monster proof bunker anywhere. Instead of equipping soldiers with air tight suits and breathers they instead learn them to not excrete pheromones. Perfectly engineered predator - blind and deaf.

It's not only full of idiotic stuff, there's not a single logical interaction/event/character in the entire movie.
Might be the worst movie I've seen this year.
